Here is Marie-Lou commonly known as Lewis or Jimmy 🙂
hello, my name is Marie-Lou Morin, I am 26 years old and I live in Montreal.
When I was young, I was a very active kid! I took some ballet jazz classes, gymnastics, tap dancing and I was part of the racing ski team. I also had this undeniable love for water! My aunt, who worked in synchro, suggested to my mom to introduce synchro in my (already very) active life. My first experience with synchro was at 8 years old at this tiny club in Saint-Henri ,where I would spend more time playing with the noodles and the inflatable toys than actually doing synchronized swimming. 😅After 2 years of playing with the noodles, my aunt suggested I move to a club that counted more than just 4 girls and that could give me the basics I needed to develop the talent and potential she had (somehow) seen in me. 🤔
I trained at the Dollard Synchro club from age 10 to 17. I made my first National team in 2005, I won the U.S. Open and the Canada Games in team and duet in 2007 and I participated to my first Junior World Championships in 2008 in Russia. Dollard Synchro club was my home for 8 years and it is where I learnt everything before leaving the nest and joining the Center of Excellence in 2008. Since 2008, I got to compete in awesome competitions around the world, but my favorite has been competing at home at the 2015 PAnam GAmes in Toronto where we got this sick gold medal ! 😁
I have been at the Center of excellence since 2008, and I thought that 2016 would of been the last year of my career…Back in 2015, I had decided to retire after the summer of 2016, Olympics or no Olympics. After our heartbreaking result in the Olympic Qualifiers, I left everything behind and embarked on a new adventure aboard the world’s biggest cruise ship to do shows and move on with my life. This adventure was amazing and an eye-opening experience for me! 🙌🏻
Even if I was travelling through the Mediterranean, getting to meet great people from all over the World and performing every night in front of a standing ovation, I missed synchro… I missed training hard with my inspiring team mates and pushing my limits every day. So I decided to fight my way back! and keep pursuing my goal and what I wanted in life right now. 💪🏻
I realize I have the rest of my life to to pursue another career path, but the chance and privilege to swim for Canada will not be there forever.
The lesson and wisdom I would like to share from this experience with the young ones (or anyone else really) , is that no matter how impossible a dream seems or how many people think you are crazy for pursuing it, follow your heart 💙and go for it without any regrets!!😌
Now, getting out of the philosophical part of my life…. As a normal 26 years old woman, I love to spend time with my friends and family, I love to bake and cook and I love ( cannot live without) naps! 😁
I look forward to inspire young swimmers and share my experience with them! Feel free to reach out anytime! 🤗
