Kali

Here she is! A fellow Calgarian, Kali!

Hi synchro community!

My name is Kali, and I have been a member of the senior national team for the past 2 years. At the young age of 7, I was introduced to the beautiful sport of synchro. My auntie had thought it would be perfect for me as it combined my love of water, dance, and gymnastics. It turned out that she was right, and here I am 14 years later, still loving every minute of it.

I began my career with the Calgary Aquabelles for 11 years until I graduated from high school at theNational Sport School. Following my graduation, I was accepted to Concordia University, which pushed my decision to move to Montreal, and begin my training with Dollard Synchro until I was chosen to be a member of the national team. I am really enjoying and looking forward to everything being a national team member has to offer me. I’ve gained so much knowledge of the sport and have had many new experiences that help me in my everyday life.

Aside from training I am also coaching a wide array of athletes at Dollard Synchro from lessons, to the more experienced juniors. I’ve recognized my love of coaching, and helping individuals to find their passion is something that I will continue to do for many years to come.

Away from the pool, I am a member of a variety of fandoms, Harry Potter being my absolute favourite!!! 😀 Some of my hobbies include getting lost in a good book, watching TV shows endlessly (when I have the time), baking yummy desserts, and spending quality time with my family and friends.

I’m looking forward to the adventure ahead of me, and am excited to share parts of it with all of you! 🙂

Meet Jackie!

Here’s the one lots of people have been waiting for! Our superstar soloist swam a BRILLIANT show last weekend at the Qualifier in Quebec City! Goosebumpssssssss!

Hi everyone!

My name is Jacqueline Simoneau and I’m 20 years old. I started off my synchro career at Dollard synchro and changed clubs in 2010 to go to Montreal Synchro. I made my first national team in 2009, and since then I have been very fortunate to compete at 3 C.O.M.E.N. Cups, 2 UANA competitons, 2 juniors worlds and the Prague Christmas prize.

Since I have made the senior national team in the end of 2012/ beginning 2013 I have had many wonderful opportunities to go and compete at many international competitons. This has permitted me to travel quite a bit and experience different cultures around the world! I have really enjoyed all my competiton experiences since I have made the Center, however some that stand out to me are the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games, 2015 FINA world championships in Russia, and of course, the Olympic Games!

Outside of synchro, I enjoying spending time with my friends and family. I also enjoy reading, learning anatomy, horse back ridding and golf. Since Rio, I have gotten out of my comfort zone and joined another team – the robotics team at school! I love new challenges and learning new things!

Meet Elizabeth!

Hey Everyone!!

We will be finishing off our “meet the team” soon, but let’s start up again with Eli!

Our trip to Quebec

Hey Everyone!

So as most of you know already, last weekend Gabe and I made a courageous decision to drive to Quebec City for the Canadian Open Qualifier!

IMG_1691 2For those of you who follow my Instagram @claudiaholzner or my teams Instagram @syncanada2020 you would already know what we went through during that trip…. A quick recap: Went for a great lunch, popped a tire driving 100km/hr, changed the tire, got to the hotel and received the key to someone else’s room…awkward…. got a new room and met some synchro girls who had been running around trying to figure out where we were staying. That’s probably the best way to describe it all!

We were so excited to arrive at the pool the next morning to perform our Tech Duet for the first time in public and we are pretty happy about our swim! We have a ways to go and lots of little things to work on, but we are confident that our training plan is working and that we are on the right track as we get ready for Japan in just about a month!

I know that both Gabe and I truly felt a huge wave of support throughout the Synchro Community as we made our Canadian debut and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to give us positive comments and tips for our duet as well as just to chat and meet the next generation of excellent swimmers! Thank you for making us feel welcome and we can hardly wait to perform in front of you again at the Canadian Open in May!

Follow our journey using the hashtag #gabeclau in honour of our Aquabelle “mini me’s” xoxo

Sam!

Here is Sam!!

Hey,

My name is Sam and I have been a member of the senior national team since fall 2012. I have been swimming for 16 years now and am currently 22 years old. I started synchro in Guelph, Ontario. I made my first national team in 2011. My favourite competition so far has been the Pan Am games in 2015 held in Toronto. Competing on home soil and in front of my friends and family was an experience I’ll never forget.

Being apart of the national team allows me to visit many places around the world and has really sparked my love for travel. My favourite place that I have traveled to so far is Japan!

I have a rabbit named pork chop (follow princess_pork_chop1 on Instagram for pics)!🐰

I am currently attending Concordia university part time. After swimming I wish to pursue a career as a physiotherapist.

Meet Marie-Lou!

Here is Marie-Lou commonly known as Lewis or Jimmy 🙂

hello, my name is Marie-Lou Morin, I am 26 years old and I live in Montreal.

When I was young, I was a very active kid! I took some ballet jazz classes, gymnastics, tap dancing and I was part of the racing ski team. I also had this undeniable love for water! My aunt, who worked in synchro, suggested to my mom to introduce synchro in my (already very) active life. My first experience with synchro was at 8 years old at this tiny club in Saint-Henri ,where I would spend more time playing with the noodles and the inflatable toys than actually doing synchronized swimming. 😅After 2 years of playing with the noodles, my aunt suggested I move to a club that counted more than just 4 girls and that could give me the basics I needed to develop the talent and potential she had (somehow) seen in me. 🤔

I trained at the Dollard Synchro club from age 10 to 17. I made my first National team in 2005, I won the U.S. Open and the Canada Games in team and duet in 2007 and I participated to my first Junior World Championships in 2008 in Russia. Dollard Synchro club was my home for 8 years and it is where I learnt everything before leaving the nest and joining the Center of Excellence in 2008. Since 2008, I got to compete in awesome competitions around the world, but my favorite has been competing at home at the 2015 PAnam GAmes in Toronto where we got this sick gold medal ! 😁

I have been at the Center of excellence since 2008, and I thought that 2016 would of been the last year of my career…Back in 2015, I had decided to retire after the summer of 2016, Olympics or no Olympics. After our heartbreaking result in the Olympic Qualifiers, I left everything behind and embarked on a new adventure aboard the world’s biggest cruise ship to do shows and move on with my life. This adventure was amazing and an eye-opening experience for me! 🙌🏻

Even if I was travelling through the Mediterranean, getting to meet great people from all over the World and performing every night in front of a standing ovation, I missed synchro… I missed training hard with my inspiring team mates and pushing my limits every day. So I decided to fight my way back! and keep pursuing my goal and what I wanted in life right now. 💪🏻

I realize I have the rest of my life to to pursue another career path, but the chance and privilege to swim for Canada will not be there forever.

The lesson and wisdom I would like to share from this experience with the young ones (or anyone else really) , is that no matter how impossible a dream seems or how many people think you are crazy for pursuing it, follow your heart 💙and go for it without any regrets!!😌

Now, getting out of the philosophical part of my life…. As a normal 26 years old woman, I love to spend time with my friends and family, I love to bake and cook and I love ( cannot live without) naps! 😁

I look forward to inspire young swimmers and share my experience with them! Feel free to reach out anytime! 🤗

Here’s Gwen!

Hi! My name is Gwen, I am 18 years old and currently in my 8th year of synchronized swimming. The last club I swam with before joining the Centre of Excellence was Excel Synchro where I was coached by Teresa Alentejano. Synchro has given me many awesome opportunities to travel the world to countries like Russia and Prague! I look forward to competing at more international competitions representing Canada in the future! Outside of synchro, I am currently studying linguistics at Concordia. In my free time I enjoy reading, painting and listening to good music! I also love animals, especially dogs, and my favorite color is pink! You can follow me on my social media accounts here:

Meet Becky

Hey Everyone,

It’s been a while, but here we are continuing our introduction of the 2017 Senior National Team!!

I’m Becky Maule, I was born and raised in Guelph Ontario. I have always loved swimming. When I was 7 years old, I saw a synchronized swimming booth in the Guelph mall one weekend with my mum and decided to sign up for fun! Since that day Synchro has changed my life; it has taught me so much about working with a team and many things about myself!

Guelph Synchro club is where I began my swimming career. After several happy years of growth and development, I continued my training with the Olympium Synchro swim club in a high performance program. As a part of the high performance program, I attended Silverthorn Collegiate high school in Etibocoke for 4 years, commuting every day from Guelph. In grade 11 my duet partner Rachel Kowalski and I transferred to the Granite Club for the opportunity to train with Sheilagh Croxon. The highlight of my junior career was attending World Junior Championships in Indiannapolis and winning a bronze medal! I wouldn’t be where I am today without the strong foundation and support I received from the many coaches I’ve been fortunate to work with!

As a member of the national team since 2010, I am honored to represent Canada! I am so grateful to be surrounded by such an inspiring group of people including my awesome teammates, all of our amazing coaches and talented staff! I’m excited for our upcoming challenges this year and look forward to competing at World Championships in Budapest this summer!

Over the years I’ve been swimming I have developed a love for travel! I love good music, dogs, the colour pink, and good food (especially chocolate)! I spend my free time hanging out with my close friends and family. I also really enjoy opportunities to coach and connect with young aspiring swimmers!

Feel free to get in touch with me on Facebook @BeckyMaule or follow me or my dog on instagram! @beckymaule and @dylanthedog5andoban

Meet Claudia

Hey!! So today’s bio is yours truly! Here is some of the information you may not know about me!

Hi everyone!

For those of you who don’t know me my name is Claudia, which can be pronounced Clo-dia, Cloud-ia, Claw-dia, or Pod-ia as the kids like to call me….

I have been a member of this Senior National Team since 2012 and this is my 15th year of Synchro! I have had some incredible moments these past 4 years competing at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships, 2015 Pan American Games, 2015 World Aquatics Championships, 2016 Olympic Qualifier and many more in betwe
en!

I started synchro at the age of 8 after watching the 2000 Summer Olympics. I trained at the Repsol Sport Centre with the Calgary Aquabelles for 10 years before making the big move to Montreal to pursue my Olympic Dream.

While I was training with the Aquabelles, I also had the opportunity of going to St. Mary’s High School CCSD as an honour roll student and started my 1st year of Nursing at Mount Royal University. I am now at Concordia University as an independent student studying french and business… Still deciding on what I want to be when I grow up 😜

Some interesting facts about me:
– I have a mini statue of Barney that I take with me to every competition…. a good luck charm with a long story behind it….
– I am going to be 23 in exactly 2 weeks today!
– I understand German and can speak it well when in dire need 😉
– I can plug my nose with my lip
– I have a different handshake/pre-competition ritual with each coach I’ve had

Meet Andree-Anne

Welcome our newest member to the Senior National Team!! The translation seemed very weird, so it will be the 1st french post of the season 😉
